Overview Background Philosophy In the Industry Careers

SOA Systems has played a prominent role in furthering the SOA movement. We have published the top-selling SOA books, numerous SOA-related papers, and are involved in a number of on-going projects and industry-wide initiatives.

Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS)
SOA Systems has been a contributing member of several OASIS technical committees. OASIS is responsible for the development of standardized technologies for modern Web services platforms.
(See www.oasis-open.org for more information.)

Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I)
SOA Systems is an advocate of the Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I). WS-I is an open industry consortium chartered to facilitate Web services interoperability and to accelerate Web services adoption in the marketplace. (See www.ws-i.org for more information.)

XML & Web Services Integration Framework (XWIF)
XWIF represents years of research organized into an SOA-centric integration framework designed to leverage the advancements in data representation and logic encapsulation provided by the XML and Web Services platforms. This framework was documented in "Service-Oriented Architecture: A Field Guide to Integrating XML and Web Services" and formally endorsed by IBM and Microsoft. (See www.xwif.com and www.soabooks.com for more information.)

SOAMethodology.com
SOAMethodology.com provides an overview of the Mainstream SOA Methodology (MSOAM) developed by SOA Systems, which is comprised of proven processes and strategies for service delivery, inventory analysis, and service-oriented analysis and design. Visit www.soamethodology.com for more information.

SOAPrinciples.com
As part of its efforts to establish a mainstream SOA methodology, SOA Systems performed extensive research to determine a common set of service-orientation principles that span primary vendor platforms. Some of this research was made available publicly at for the benefit of the SOA community. This body of work was further documented in "Service-Oriented Architecture: Concepts, Technology, and Design" and "SOA: Principles of Service Design" (See www.soaprinciples.com and www.soabooks.com for more information.)

Service-Oriented Architecture:
A Field Guide to Integrating XML and Web Services

This reference guide provides an large collection of integration strategies as well as comprehensive documentation of service-oriented integration architectures. Originally released in April, 2004 this book was formally reviewed and endorsed by senior members of Microsoft and IBM. Over 30,000 copies have been published (not including copies translated into other languages).

Service-Oriented Architecture:
Concepts, Technology, and Design

In August, 2005 Thomas released the first "how-to" guide to SOA. This title establishes a mainstream methodology for building services and service-oriented solutions and provides structured processes for service-oriented analysis and service-oriented design. This title was formally reviewed and endorsed by senior members of IBM, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems and over 35,000 copies have been published (not including copies translated into other languages).

SOA: Principles of Service Design

The first book dedicated to service engineering, this title establishes service-orientation as a design paradigm and provides an overall hands-on manual for service design, linking concrete specific service-orientation design principles with the strategic goals and benefits associated with SOA. Prior to its publication, the manuscript underwent a thorough technical review by 60 industry professionals. The book received praise and endorsements from members of IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, BEA, Sun, Intel, SAP, and HP (see here for a list of review quotes).

SOA Design Patterns

This next title will provide pattern languages and specialized pattern catalogs for architectural and service design patterns specific to SOA and service-orientation.

Articles, Interviews, Webcasts

SOA Systems has also been published numerous times on Web sites and in printed and online industry trade magazines, such as Web Services Journal, Fawcette Publications, WLDJ, LooselyCoupled.com, Application Development Trends, BPTrends.com, Dr. Dobb’s Journal, SearchWebServices.com, and the Wall Street Journal (Visit the In the Media page for more information.)

Papers and Web sites
Numerous papers have been published through a network of Web sites developed by SOA Systems. These educational resources are made available openly for the IT community. (See the Papers and Web sites pages for more information.)
