September 24-27, 2006 Thomas Erl (founder of SOA Systems) has been invited to deliver a pre-conference workshop at the Gartner Application Development Summit in Phoenix, AZ. The workshop is focused on Service-Oriented Analysis and Design and is scheduled for 5:30 PM on September 24, 2006. The conference will continue until September 27, 2006. All events will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Hotel & Spa. Below is the abstract: “Service-Oriented Analysis and Design” The service analysis and design phases represent the most critical parts of an SOA project in that the decisions made during these stages can collectively determine the quality and longevity of the subsequent service implementations. The task of properly partitioning automation logic into services is also one of the most challenging and misunderstood parts of the SOA delivery lifecycle, requiring judgment, foresight, and the coordinated collaboration of technical and analytical expertise. This workshop provides techniques, best practices, and guidelines for producing high-quality service designs with the intention of maximizing reuse and ROI. The various phases are explained as distinct processes that focus exclusively on shaping and partitioning automation logic through service-orientation. We also explore how the structured analysis and design of services can impact an enterprise on an organizational level by introducing new roles, responsibilities, and governance requirements.
